This hotel affords you one of the most spectacular views of Ottawa. The staff was friendly and very helpful. The room was clean and the king size bed luxurious.
Bathroom was nicely appointed and wifi worked well. This hotel is worth a visit when in the Gatineau/Ottawa area. It is close to many attractions and right across the street from a bridge that takes you to Ottawa proper.
Two blocks from the hotel is one of the finest restaurants in the area, Le Tartuffe. Do give it a try and take home a memory you will not soon forget. Prices are very reasonable at the Best Western Plus.
February 2013
My husband and I enjoyed a romantic long weekend in Ottawa during Winterlude. We stayed at the Best Western on the Gatineau side, which is reasonably priced and in a prime location. The hotel staff are completely bilingual. Our room was on the 9th (top) floor. We had an incredible view of the parliament buildings, the river and Jacques Cartier Park. The room was spacious and very clean. Some of the 9th floor rooms have balconies. There is a pool at this hotel but it was full of children and there was no hot tub in the pool area.
We brought our skates and warm clothes and had a wonderful time skating on the canal. It was an experience that I would recommend for anyone's bucket list. Along our skating travels we stopped to eat a "beaver tail" desert. I tried the maple flavour, which turned out to be a sticky and delicious treat.
The hotel was very close to Cafe St. Jacques, where we enjoyed our dinner. Expect to pay $150.00 for two dinners. The delicious food and french/spanish ambience are well worth the extra price (not a restaurant for small children).
We plan to return in the summer to explore some of the many museums in Ottawa and would recommend staying at this hotel.

Excellent location, great view, very professional and friendly staff. Lots of parking in the back (may not be the ideal, but better than parking on the road).
The staff were especially helpful.

Fun place.. Great for kids..
Hi I just left the Best Western Gatineau and was pleasantly surprised by this hotel. The rooms are big, great size for a family, clean and bright. The lobby was very welcoming with the fire going and the leather couches. Upon check in we had a great service by Roxanne who made us feel very welcome and like family. She was able to refer us to some great family restaurants in the city and activities to do with the kids. We were even given a 2 for one coupon for the museum across the street.. We spent quite a bit of time in the pool and fitness centre and loved the fact that the pool is salt water.. Easier on the eyes and the swimming suits.. and there isn't that horrible smell when you enter the pool area.. We had to call down to the desk to get extra towels sent up and this was done in moments. I was please with the service that I received. The hotel is very price savvy as they are so much less expensive then downtown hotels but are actually much easier to park at and find.

Great Hotel and the location is excellent. I have been to this Hotel many times and the staff is always great. I love the underground parking. Very close to the parliament and the market. Easy access to everthiing in Gatineau and Ottawa.
July 2012
No problems or concerns - all staff were very efficient and friendly - the restaurant was very good - we enjoyed breakfast and dinner there and would recommend to friends. Location of hotel was excellent - an enjoyable stay all round.
June 2012
Staff was very friendly and welcoming. Food in the Restaurant was delicious, and servers were amazing!! Pool and Fitness area was clean and well maintained. I would recommend this hotel to anyone going to the Ottawa area.
Had a great stay and can not wait to travel to Ottawa again to stay at this hotel again.
Thanks for Everything!!!!

Roxane Brazeau and her team really did a great job, each time encountered a staff member always smile and welcoming.
June 2012
Gina did a great job of accommodating those with dietary concerns, and truly went above and beyond to ensure folks enjoyed their food.
Bridgette was always very helpful and approachable, as was the gentleman she worked with with the glasses.
June 2012
I can't remember the manager's name but she was amazing. The entire hotel staff was incredibly friendly and very accommodating.
June 2012
This hotel was not our particular choice but a last minute scramble due to a mistake with our reservation elsewhere. Ultimately it was fine and we were very pleased with the space of our executive suite which was almost as big as a small apartment. Two balconies, one for the bedroom and one for the sitting room provided fresh air and great views even from the back of the hotel. Service from all staff was prompt and pleasant and the room refreshed every day. Our suite had a small fridge and coffee maker as well as a desk, office chair, full sized sofa and sitting chair. We didn't breakfast in the hotel as it seemed rather expensive but chose to self cater from the convenience store "Freres Chenier" in a street just behind the hotel. Very satisfactory and much cheaper. The walk across the bridge was not a problem for two reasonably fit 60 year olds and having the waterfront park across the road from the hotel was great. The hotel is only a few minutes walk to the Museum of Civilization and local restaurants. It worked out well even though chosen hastily and was good value for money.

You couldn't ask for a better location when visiting Ottawa. We were on the 9th floor with a balcony, water view (through a park) and a view of the Parliment buildings. I especially enjoyed lying in bed and looking out the window to see Parliment hill. It was a short cab ride to Byward Market. The only negative is that you are right at the bridge so the view of the Parliment building is obstructed and the bridge can get very noisy with the trucks and traffic. The hotel was nice but the room was a little dated. But it wouldn't stop me from returning. Keep in mind that it's a Best Western. Definately would recommend based on location
Michigan, USA
My husband and I were there for one night. We were moving our daughter out of her apartment upon her University graduation. After a very busy day of packing and loading we found our room very clean, and welcoming. We had a King room with river view. The bed was very comfortable. There was a nice new big flat screen T V, and the bathroom was clean and bright. Room was fairly quiet, I could hear bridge traffic, but not very loud. We were on the 8th floor and the only ice machines were in the basement. The hotel was pretty much full with a dance competion, so it took awhile to get down and back on the elevators. Check in went quickly and freindly. We are English speaking and the staff adapt to English well. We were there on our hotel points, and got a complementary upgrade.

My family and I spent one night here to celebrate a 70th Birthday.. I had emailed ahead to ask for an early check in to be ready for the surprise.. The Manager called me and was very pleasant.. I called the hotel Friday night and was told the 3 rooms were all ready for Sat early check in.. Great service.. Front desk staff were very helpful and pleasant..Thanks Sebastien, Jessica, Stephanie.. The rooms were all very nice and the view of the river and Ottawa is amazing Worth paying the extra money.. Very nice weekend getaway..Also got a late check out....Thanks your Martin Fogarty and staff.

Although this hotel seems to be undergoing some refurbishment we have had a very comfortable and enjoyable week there.
**Plus points - Front rooms with balcony have spectacular views of the Ottawa river, Alexandra bridge, Canadian Parliament etc etc
These rooms get a glorious morning sun and windows can be opened to benefit from some fresh air
Beds are exceptionally comfortable, rooms have a full sized fridge and coffee machine.
Bathrooms are fairly spacious, very clean with showers over bath and plentifuly supply of toiletries.
The location is excellent, with a reasonably quiet road in front, park leading down to Ottawa river, a 10minute walk over
Alexandra Bridge brings you to downtown Ottawa and Byward market, Rideau shopping mall..........
Canadian Museum of Civilisation is 5 minute walk away, your entry ticket is good for all day so you can come out after
a while for a rest and go back in again later.
Free wi-fi in room and free computer in reception area for checking emails, printing boarding passes etc.
Friendly, helpful reception staff.
** Minus points - During our stay the swimming pool was only open 5.30pm-9.30pm which meant we didn't manage to use it, hopefully
Once the refubishment is complete it will be available all day.
Parking charges - it would be a nice gesture to offer free parking to residents.
Room Tip: Well worth booking a rivber view room with balcony

In town for 1/2Marathon and to check out the end of Winterfest. Great location, across the bridge from downtown, amazing museum down the street, festival across the street! Great views of parliament buildings from balcony! Stayed 2 nights/3days didn't move the car from the parkade.
Only downside is not many food options, but the late night store in behind hotel was handy; unlike Ontario they sell cold beer and wine too
Stephanie at the front desk was very helpful.
March 2012
I have stayed for 2 weeks at a time, 2 seperate times. The staff has been exemplamentary. I asked for extra coffee once for my room, and always received it. The restaurant staff, chef and Sandra and Brain are most excellent. Top shelf.
March 2012
Hotel is very conveniently located across the Ottawa River. Within walking distance of Canadian Civilization Museum and a 10 minute walk to downtown Ottawa. Not fancy, good enough for visiting Ottawa. Had a beautiful view from the room of Ottawa. Staff at desk are bilingual, very friendly and accommodating. The pool hours are limited to evenings on […] weekdays which was not ideal. Meals are not included in the rate. Did not eat there. Located near a run-down neighbourhood. I was satisfied with my stay. It's a good choice if you are visiting the capital and you don't want to pay an exorbitant amount.
March 2012
Staff at the reception desk were all very pleasant and helpful
The children in our party really enjoyed the indoor pool.
March 2012
The hotel is not chic or trendy, but it's in a great location. The room was very large, the bed was comfortable, and the staff very helpful and friendly.

Location
What were your least favourite things about this hotel? Elevator and lack of quick hot water (we were on last floor)
Tell us about the location Favorite thing about the hotel. Close to museum of civilization and winterlude activities.
We found the employees very pleasant and accommodating. We were offered an upgrade at no additional cost (from a room with 2 double beds to a room with a king bed). The room was clean; however. Appreciated to see and hear that staff at reception were fluently bilingual and able to serve clients without any issues.
February 2012
Went during winterlude. fantastic location and great view of parliament hill as well as all the winterlude festivities. the kids (5 and 6 years old) had a blast in the pool in the evening. the hotel staff was fantastic and parking was no problem at all. i had read previous post saying that they had limited parking, but i had a spot right out front and [?] everytime i went out, there were spots available. A great stay.
February 2012
Me and my family stayed there in this hotel last week and we had to check out a day in advance unexpected. I Spoke to the sales manager Paul and he was so nice, professional and helped us to have refunded and talked very nicely. We were really impressed with the kind of professionalism they have and the hotel is very clean.
February 2012
This is a quirky but decent Best Western just across the bridge from the National Gallery / Parliament Hill in Gatineau. It is on a reasonably quiet but well travelled road, facing Jacques Cartier park (home of the Winterlude ice slides in early February!). At night, you can look over the Ottawa River and see Parliament lit up along with the glass prisms of the National Gallery.
The pros: it's a seven dollar cab ride to anywhere in downtown Ottawa without paying downtown Ottawa rates. The rooms are quiet, clean, well maintained. There is a decent work desk, leather chair, good lighting and plug-ins for your computer on the desk top. The biggest drawback is the in-room wireless internet service -- while free with a passcode, it is pretty erratic. In an emergency, however, you can use the guest computer in the lobby. And checkout is slow.
If you have to go to Place du Portage (the big federal government complex in Hull), it's only about seven blocks away. The only hotel closer is the Sheraton (with a corresponding jump in price!).
There is an onsite restaurant -- really quite decent and inexpensive. Fun staff. The dinner table d'hote is three courses for $15 and I didn't made it to course three. It's a bit quirky -- fabric table cloths, paper placemats and artifical flowers, Pepsi served in the tin with a straw. The "double cheese bacon burger" is actually two full size hamburgers, side by side, both with cheese and bacon. Here I thought it was either two types of cheese or possibly two patties!
The staff are friendly and effortlessly bilingual. They will even put up with badly accented ungrammatical Grade 12 French if you try it out with them. They are equally happy to talk to you in English. Other quirks: the pool is salt water (not sure why) and only open in the evenings on weekdays. The restaurant doesn't serve lunch but there's a great Thai place a couple properties to the right as you leave the hotel. The massive Canadian Museum of Civilization is just a couple blocks away too.
Top floor is the 9th -- very quiet but some noise transfer during the day from the hallway if you work in your room. As with most hotels, the staff make the place. Call directly to get a better rate than on-line.
Room Tip: I was upgraded without asking midweek to a top floor (9th floor) river view room with a king bed.
February 2012
The hotel was clean, quiet and nice view. The view was really nice, we could see parliament building and Ottawa downton. The bed was comfy. Staff members were friendly and polite, they were ready to help with smile.
January 2012
It is little wonder why we always choose to stay at Best Western Plus/Gatineau!!!! The front-desk/ reception staff are the best!!! (even better, and more professional, than Paris!)
Thank you all!!!

He was working at the front desk on December 25th 2011, the name escaped me
Topics .Additional comments.I forget the name of the employee in charge overnight on the 25th of December 2011, I wish I could recollect , but he was very courteous, polite, he knew exactly what he was doing & for working the night shift on a holiday was in quite high spirits , you guys had a fine young man working for you that night & I am happy to let you guys know.
Thank you for the wonderful service & happy holidays to you and your crew!
December 2011
I stayed recently at the Best Western Gatineau with my family. Was nice, clean and the view was fantastic. But what is making a huge difference, is the quality of the staff. If I was a hotel manager, I would steal the staff there! Nice and warm welcome, helpful staff at the desk and fantastic lifeguard attitude toward kids. May not be a 5 star hotel [?] itself, but the staff make it earn those extra stars.
December 2011
Restaurant excellent and excellent service!
December 2011
Very good experience. The hotel team are really nice. Thank you!
December 2011

Brigette and Roxanne outstanding!!
November 2011
Need a place to sleep? You don't need anything beyond this. Comfortable bed, comfortable pillows (and tons of 'em!), and good shower, absorbent towels, plenty of room in the room. New iron and ironing board, free WiFi in the room... and that view of the Ottawa River and parliament! The service is exceptionally good! That alone makes it worthwhile. It's [?] not a vacation-destination hotel, where you hang out there, eat, drink, swim, etc... no. It is a functional, comfortable, pleasant place to sleep with exceptional service. I'd stay there again in a heartbeat, and I recommend it.
November 2011
Staff extremely pleasant and friendly! Restaurant (Sandra) and manager (Roxanne) made this stay memorable.
November 2011
Wonderful experience. My commendations, especially to the restaurant staff. Sandra is amazing!
November 2011
Jessica was excellent, very helpful, The coffee was extremely strong.
November 2011
I really don't know thier names.. but all the front desk staff were lovely and the repair man that came and fixed the heating unit was very nice too.
November 2011
Quick and friendly check in. Convenient restaurant
November 2011
I came to Ottawa to work at the National Archives and the location is great. Normally, I am used to paying less, but for Ottawa prices, this Best Western has great value and great bread pudding!!
November 2011
Being just across the river of parliament it offers a good view (on the riverside) and quick commute downtown to the market and rideau mall. Enjoyable stay
October 2011
Everything good, nice spot, very recommended. Fare prices, excellent food all around walking distance.
October 2011
Good place, friendly staff, try to get a room with river view, beautiful
September 2011
We stayed here for one night on our way to Quebec and were happy with the quality and value.
The room had what we needed, was clean and the beds were comfortable.
We had no trouble with parking out front, and made use of the very tiny pool (there seemed to be a lifeguard there during opening hours, which I haven't seen in other hotels, but I guess its a good thing).
The breakfast wasn't included, but there were some cheap enough options on the menu. We had the house-made strawberry yogurt (fresh! not too sweet) and vegetarian baked beans (great taste). Both were excellent and I was totally impressed that they made it in house.
The best part was that the hotel was a nice walking distance to Ottawa over the bridge. The bridge has plenty of pedestrian/bike space, so we walked into the Byward market for dinner and a drink and it was a nice nighttime walk with views over the river.
We had no trouble with staff or service, in fact the breakfast staff in the restaurant were very friendly.
I'd definitely stay here again and recommend it to anyone looking for a comfortable hotel close to downtown without the downtown Ottawa prices.
Room Tip: Pay the extra for a river-view room -- it's worth it for the morning and nighttime view
Aug. 2011
We chose this hotel for a one night stop over as we had to return our car to downtown Ottawa in the morning. We made a good choice. the room had everything we needed. We ate both our evening meal and breakfast in the restaurant and were pleased with the food and service. Our room was clean and well equipped. We did have a view looking over the back streets but as we were there only one night that was no bother. its a good location, very close to the river and the fantastic Museum of Civilisation. A walk over the bridge takes you to the centre of Ottawa.
Stayed August 2011, traveled as a couple
Sept. 2011
Employee (Sebastien) Very friendly francophone who on two occassions provided directions (Map Quest) to a Museum and another location: very friendly and helpful!
Sept. 2011
Eric at the front desk was particularly helpful in giving us directions and input on sites. Thank you.
Aug. 2011
Do not know their names, but all the personell at the hotel were ready and willing to give help and directions.

Compliment Employees
Cristina Late night Check in Gentleman and the day front desk staff very helpful.
Additional comments
Great attitude and helpful people in the dining room. Cristina served breakfast twice and was very proper, helpful and cheerful. Good way to start a day. Thanks.
July 2011
Hotel had great location, we had a riverview room and the view was great. Nice little balcony . Would stay again for the room, balcony and ease of access to both Gatineau and Ottawa downtown.
The hotel is in a great location. A short very scenic walk to downtown Ottawa. The room we reserved: "river view-king bed" was comfortable, very clean with a new mattress and great sheets. The room was quiet and we slept very well.
Aug 2011
Good location of the hotel, very close to Parliament Hill and Ottawa downtown. Limited parking space in front of hotel, but they have another lot at the back,no issues whatsoever. free wi-fi in the room. Bathroom was quite good like any other 3 star hotel. I would come in this hotel again, the price was cheaper than hotels in Ottawa in august.
This hotel is very well located. Even better than Ottawa downtown because from the hotel you get a marvelous view of the downtown and the parliament across the river. Just cross the bridge and you are there. In addition, the Canadian National Museum is just around the corner. The hotel isn't new and it isn't lavish either. But is very clean, has renovated bathrooms, and comfortable beds. For the price (it was the lowest priced 3 star in Expedia) it is an excellent choice!
The hotel is not chic or trendy, but it's in a great location. The room was very large, the bed was comfortable, and the staff very helpful and friendly.
Getting around
There are many buses so it's easy to get around. If you can rent a bike, even better! they have bike paths that go everywhere.
We stayed for 2 nights and found the hotel to be within an amazingly close proximity to downtown Ottawa. The room was very large and clean and the staff very welcoming and helpful. Our room had a great view of the river, Parliament buildings and the National Art Gallery. For certain we will be for be returning to this hotel.
Area recommendations
Gatineau, Hull sector. Was close enough to downtown ottawa without paying downtown prices.
Getting around
Walk! Parking downtown cost are a atrociously expensive. We walked everywhere, museums, and restaurants all within close radius to this hotel.
Must see
Civilization Museum, Afghanistan hidden treasures exhibit and 3D Imax saw U2.
Reasonably priced hotel, with views over the Ottaw River. Conveniently located for the Canadian Museum of Civilization just up the street.
We were greeted by a very courtious staff, they spoke both french and english. Our room was very clean, our view of the river was very enjoyable. Everything in the room was in working order. We were unable to go to the pool due to our getting back at the hotel at a late hour but we did stop by to visit and it was very clean.
Must see
Canadian museum of civilization is just across the street from the hotel.
the BEST best western I have ever stayed. lots of top class services. (free wifi internet and a lounge computer with printer) for a hundered buck the location cant really be beat. Pay the extra few bucks for the riverview and you can wake up to the parliament building.
We arrived at the hotel exhausted and hungry after an ten hour drive at 9:15pm and the kitchen was officially closed, but the hotel desk notified the chef. He came out, told us that he would give us one of the fixed price meals that came with soup and coffee {$15!] and we could have our pick of steak or barbecued chicken. We chose the steak and it was an absolutely delicious meal served by lovely welcoming staff.
Area recommendations
Down-town market place. One of the very best open farmers markets in North America! Rivalled only by the Montreal markets. The display of vegetables and fruit is simply beautiful, and the variety of food to eat there and buy to take home is enticing and excellent.
July 2011
Within walking distance of many attractions including Parliament Hill. The exterior isn't much to look at, but the room was clean, the shower pressure was good, and the bed was comfortable.
Close to the Museum of Civilization and the bridge. You could walk over the bridge to the downtown of Ottawa. it's so convenient. Hotel room was spacious and clean. Staff were nice, friendly and helpful. However, the rate didn't include breakfast and parking.
We have had to stay in this area several times in the past 6 months and have tried many hotels. The search for a place we'd like to stay again is over! We loved this hotel, the location, the room was clean and the breakfast is awesome! Best value by far compared to the other hotels we've stayed in. We'll be back for sure!
This hotel was a great value for your dollar. It wasnt a high end hotel but it had everything we needed for our stay. Plus we had a fabulous view of parliament from our balcony. And it was a very quick walk across the Alexandria Bridge to get to Ottawa and parliament.

Normally I don't write a review when I stay at a hotel and everything goes well. But the more people I told about this hotel the more I thought I should write a review somewhere.
I was travelling with my family and we wanted to see Ottawa and Gatineau in 2 days ( I realize now that was too short of a time) We decided to stay at the Best Western becausue it was close to downtown Ottawa, the room and parking prices were good (compared to the CRAZY prices in Ottawa) and we could visit Gatineau and Ottawa at the same time. It turned out to be quite a nice little hotel. Yes, it needs a facelift in the front of the hotel but the view from our room of the city was so nice.. The rooms were a good size and the beds were comfy... For the price we paid it was excellent accomodations. The pool is a good size and I appreciated that they had a lifeguard on duty showing that they care about the safety of their guests. My husband used the workout facilities and said the equipment was extremely well maintained, the workout room was very clean, there were towels for him to use and a TV to watch.. All in all exactly what he needed (he will stay at this hotel on his next business trip to Ottawa).
The front desk staff were very nice and helpful. They gave us brochures about things to visit in their tourist area and also directed us to the tourism office to search out coupons for activities in the area. The hotel is very kids friendly. The restaurant while small was very welcoming and the food was great.. I had the manicotti, YUMMY..
I have to say that after reading other posts about this hotel I was unsure of what to expect, but I was pleasantly surprised. It's not a glitzy hotel, but it fulfilled all of my BW requirements, friendly, affordable, clean, well maintained and easy access to most events..
I would reccomend this hotel to a family travelling on a budget..
